The SSI Prep 200 System meets your basic needs for routine automated semi-preparative and preparative HPLC. Now you can isolate and purify microgram to multigram quantities of analytes with a high level of performance for all your scale-up and preparative applications. The SSI Prep Systems are capable of isocratic and gradient operation.

(I) Solvent Delivery System

The combination of two Prep 100 dual-head digital pumps with pressure monitoring meet the flow requirements for applications in the semi-preparative to preparative range.

The standard Prep 100 pump, which includes a built-in pulse damper, is capable of delivering flows with low pulsation - less than 2% RSD at the maximum flow rate of 100 mL/min (at 3000 psi). Self-flushing pump heads actively wash the region behind the high-pressure pump seals, dramatically extending seal life when buffers are used as mobile phase. The rugged Prep 100 pumps come with a 3-year warranty, ensuring reliability over time. The maximum operating pressure in this flow rate range is 4000 psi.

The maximum flow rate in isocratic mode is 200 mL/min. Linear binary gradient profiles can be accomplished using the two-pump system; the maximum flow rate possible in this mode is 100 mL/min.

(II) Model 500 UV/Vis Detector

The Model 500 variable wavelength UV detector employed in the prep system includes a SS-Kalrez prep flow cell that contains a variable pathlength flowcell (0-3 mm) intended for use in high-flow LC applications. The flow cell uses 1/8" OD connections at the inlet and outlet to handle the flows associated with prep applications.

(III) Sample Introduction

Sample introduction is automated using a SSI Series II single-piston 10 mL digital pump which is joined to the solvent delivery line via a tee. The prep pumps stop when the injection pump is operational. Check valves ensure that there is no back-flow of mobile phase into the sample introduction pump.

(IV) System Control Unit (SCU)

At the heart of the SSI Prep 200 System is a smart, compact keypad unit that provides complete control of solvent delivery, sample injection, isocratic/gradient program, run duration, four time-configurable TTL events, and number of repeating cycles. The SCU display continuously monitors the current cycle and elapsed time. In gradient mode, the SCU will control a single-step linear gradient using the two combined prep pumps. The gradient feature also incorporates an equilibrium delay prior to the gradient ramp and a delay time for return to initial conditions.

Flow rates may be modified from the SCU at any time during the run. The ‘hold,’ ‘continue,’ and ‘abort’ commands allow control of flow rate and run sequence.

Prep 200 System for gradient or high-flow isocratic operation includes:

  • 2 Prep 100 pumps with pressure monitoring
  • Series II sample introduction pump
  • Prep Detector (UV500 with prep flow cell)
  • SCU controller for isocratic/gradient system control
  • Prep system accessory kit
