We have had two suppliers of a DPDT relay in the lamp ignition circuit on the main board
of all of our UV-Vis detectors except for the UV6000 and the PDA, Potter and Brumfield/
Tyco and Takamisawa. The former had a slower switching time than the latter leading to
intermittent problems with the triggering of the deuterium lamp. In the Linear 200 and
OEM products derived from the Linear 200 and the UV100, the problem will show up as a
lamp failed error that appears intermittently.
In the UV1000, UV2000, Surveyor UV-Vis, Surveyor UV-Vis Plus, Linear 201 and Linear
205, the error will show up as low light level detected from Deuterium lamp. No problem
has been seen with the UV3000 and the Linear 206. Again the problem will be
intermittent if it is due to the design of the relay.
We will only be using the Takamisawa relay in the future. To fix the problem, order a new
main board for the detector. The factory service stock has only the correct relay now.
