Title: Battery Failure on Series III PCB Set Rev: 0 Date: 1/23/06
Situation:
Certain pumps utilizing the Series III board set (16-0767) can experience a loss of pump configurations
settings when the pump is powered off for a period of time. This is due to a premature drain of the
battery caused by a circuit board component not performing to the manufacturer’s specifications (i.e.
board SRAM does not go into ‘standby’ mode).
Production of pumps using suspect board spans from July 2004 to September 2005, but the problem is
not exhibited on all pumps produced during that time period.
Pumps with suspect board sets include primarily Series 1+, Series 3, and Series 1500 with serial
numbers in the range of A20000 to A21300.
Solution:
The situation can be corrected through any of the following actions:
- Replace battery on board set. A standard size battery CR2032 (various manufacturers) is
recommended to replace CR2025 to maximize life. Reference operator’s manual for battery
replacement procedure.
- Replace the board set with updated version that does not experience premature battery
drainage. Pumps with a pressure transducer will need to have the pressure reading
recalibrated. Reference Service Note SV2005-01 for calibration procedure.
- Do not “power down” the pump for an extended time period. Pump configuration settings will be
retained in memory as long as the pump is on. The battery is not in use while the pump is on.
